Crane Park Island Nature Reserve

You will be surprised to find this haven of nature amongst the hustle and bustle of Twickenham town. The London Wildlife Trust manages Crane Park Island which is accessed via Crane Park off Ellerman Avenue.

Lottery money was used to restore the 83 feet tall ‘Shot Tower’ which is a Grade II listed building, originally used for the production of lead shot and now a visitor and exhibition centre.

The nature reserve forms part of the site of Hounslow Gunpowder Mills. It is believed locally that gunpowder made here was used in Guy Fawkes’ Gunpowder Plot of 1605.
